NAE™ Project:
Update

Thank you for visiting our site - home to the North American Eagle™.

Within our web site, you will learn how a group of men and women, from the United States and Canada, are building the world's fastest automobile. Our goal is to break the current world land speed record of 763 MPH (341.09 m/s), set on October 15, 1997.

In October of 1997 RAF Pilot Andy Green drove the Thrust SSC to a new world record of 763 MPH (Mach 1.02). The car's owner, Richard Noble, held the previous record set in 1983 with Thrust2 at 633 MPH (282.98 m/s). For over 20 years now the British have held the record. We feel its time to bring the record back to North America, but it will take a team effort and corporate sponsorship to make it happen.

We have tried to make our website one of the best in the world. Webmaster Jon Higley improves on the site every week. With regular updates you can watch and read how the team is converting the former Lockheed F-104 jet fighter into one of the most sophisticated vehicles on earth.

You will learn:

  • The unique history of this former aircraft and see how it played a small part in the US Space Program.
  • About our very special wheels that are capable of 1000 mph
  • About a 42,500 HP (31,692,245.75 joules/s) jet engine with afterburner used to accelerate the car to speeds around 800 MPH (357.63 m/s).
  • The locations of some of the flattest real estate in the world.
  • The revolutionary technology used to assist in bringing the car to a safe stop from such great speeds.
  • The space age electronics that is the central nervous system of the vehicle and will provide scientists and engineers valuable information to make the vehicle safe to go for the record.
  • About the special people on the team that share a common dream - to build the world's fastest car and reclaim the world land speed record once again.

With hundreds of regular updates and thousands of photos, you will find, as others have, that this is one of the best websites on land speed racing on the Internet.
