Before arriving at Bonneville this year, Cam, Alex and I met up with the British film crew at the Alvord Desert. I decided it would be a good idea to drive the entire length of the 11 mile lakebed to see just how good the surface would be for our next speed runs in the North American Eagle™. As it turns out, the lakebed is a beautiful surface!
Alvord Desert
After spending about 4 hours at the Alvord lakebed, we headed to Winnemucca (2 hours at 85 MPH) and spent the night there and arriving Bonneville at noon on Saturday.
Dave Green's Red Lakester - Ed went into the 200 mph club last year with this car
The Red Lakester and the Purple Vega has already made it through tech inspection so it was now ready to prepare the cars for runs. Both cars made good shakedown runs and by Wednesday the Vega (with Eric Langsroth) driving increased the B Gas Altered Coupe (B/GAC) record from 245 up to 253 MPH. On Thursday, our newly licensed driver, Will Langsroth, had made a pass at 278 MPH and had the lakester in impound, ready for the backup pass Thursday morning.
World Fastest Vega - B Gas Altered Coupe now at 253 mph
Wednesday evening, Cam, Alex, Steve Green, Calvin Dirks and I went to the 200 MPH club banquet. Newly inducted 200 MPH club members were each given our 3 minutes to thank those responsible for getting us into the club. I probably blabbed on for 5 or more minutes. It was a great evening with many notable racers seated in the room.

NAE Red Hat Club Members: Dave Green, Ed Shadle and Calvin Dirks. Steve Green behind the camera!
Cam, Alex and I headed back home that night. We made it as far as Twin Falls then finished our trip home on Thursday. Calvin called to let us know that Will was unable to set a new record in the lakester as it leaned out during the run and only pulled a 265 MPH pass.

NAE Team Member Eric Wittler
NAE Team member, Eric Wittler made several passes with his modified 1000 CC Suzuki but was only able to get 188 MPH out of the bike. To much wheel spin and tapped out HP. Valerie Thompson, our newly commissioned NAE female driver made a lot of passes in her 1000 CC Production BMW but the last I heard was unable to beat the 197 record as she made several passes at about 195.
NAE Team Member Eric McClain Diesel Streamliner
Just a little short. Another of our team members, Eric McClain ran his Diesel streamliner, Swamp Witch, and increased his own record to 170.888. All and all, 2012 Bonneville was a fun meet with several records set and no bad wrecks or injuries.
